I read this book for book club as an outside reader, when your MAP score is higher than 90, and even though it can be difficult to understand at times, it's a great story.
Taking place in Long Island during the 1920's, it is about a man named Jay Gatsby and his love for Daisy, who is already married, though the only reason she isn't divorced is because she's a Catholic. Her husband, Tom, is having an affair with a woman named Myrtle Wilson. who is married to a poor man who owns a car company or something.
The narrator is Nick, though he's not very important, just the narrator. Though he does fall in love with the lovely Jordan Baker.
After many romantic things between Daisy and Gatsby, they tell Tom Daisy is leaving him. Tom blows his top and they all leave, Daisy riding with Gatsby.
But Myrtle is killed by Gatsby's car, which Daisy was driving, and Gatsby lies and says it was him who killed Myrtle.
Now here comes the worst ending ever, the reason it didn't get four stars. Tom tell Mr. Wilson Myrtle was having an affair with Gatsby, so Wilson goes to Gatsby's house, waits for Gatsby to get in the pool, then shoots Gatsby to death and then kills himself. Then, like two people come to Gatsby's funeral even though he always welcomed them into his home and threw parties. Then Jordan tells Nick she is engaged to another man.
Told you it's the worst ending ever! I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the 1920's or is just looking for a good book.
